Bikinis and Bicycles
Last week I ordered a bikini. Well, let me be clear. I ordered a bathing suit coverup. It just happened to come with a bikini. When I saw it, I had to have it. Beautiful colors flowing together like magic. The coverup was light, billowing, whimsical. I checked to see if I could just order the coverup. Nope. Twenty bucks for the whole ensemble. I rationalized that I could donate or trash the bikini and it would still be worth it. Pay here....click here....Done!
By the time the tiny package arrived, I had forgotten that I ordered it. "What in the world is this?" I thought as I quickly opened it to find the surprise. And oh, what a surprise it was! A tiny little bikini with a beautiful coverup. The bra top fell out of the package first. So cute! Hmm.....Maybe I could wear it as a bra......Maybe not. Then, out came the cute little bottom, complete with a sash and a sweet little wooden circle that made it even more the cuter and sexier. Geez. Did they have to add the cuteness?!?
Next, the coverup. It was everything I had imagined it to be. Beautiful. Sexy. Flowing. Plenty of material to cover everything up. I then started the negotiations. "The bikini is too cute not to try it...." Seriously? "Who are we fooling here?" Yes, I've been putting in the miles and pumping up the weights, but still...let's get real. I even thought, "Well, if I lose 5 pounds, walk a few more miles, lift 12 instead of 10....maybe." I even rationalized that I had actually admired my reflection in my bedroom mirror recently, wearing nothing but my underwear. "Not too bad for my age,". I decided to keep the bikini. I still haven't tried it on, but it did make its way to my one-piece, boxer-style bottom bathing suit drawer. Sitting on top of all the old ones, waiting for me to at least try it on. My guess is that I'll be wearing it. After all, I truly believe I've reached the beautiful and wonderful stage of not giving a shit.
The best image I can conjure up is rocking that bikini, beautiful coverup billowing in the wind, as I ride my bicycle down Riverside Drive this summer, stopping along the way to bask in the sun on my dock, tongues wagging and horns blowing as everyone cheers me on.
Say yes to bikinis and bicycles!
